Dr. Lawrence E. Kaplan is Interim Director of the Consultation Liaison Service at UCSF and Psycho-Oncology Psychiatry Department at UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, specializing in working with cancer patients from diagnosis through treatment and survivorship, with emphasis on cancer-related neuropsychiatric and cognitive symptom management, pharmacology, therapeutic modalities, and coping with spiritual and existential issues. He has been involved in establishing the guidelines for End of Life Options Act for the UCSF Cancer Center and performing capacity evaluations for cancer patients electing to pursue the End of Life Options Act, at UCSF. He completed his residency in general psychiatry at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, followed by a consultation-liaison fellowship at Harvard Medical School affiliate Brigham and Women's Hospital, with a sub-specialty in psychosocial oncology at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.
