This presentation will focus on educating the lay rescuer in choking prevention and treatment for adults and children. A power point presentation is followed up with hands-on Choking Rescue instruction in American Heart Association Protocols with the aid of an infant manikin and choking rescue simulators. Audience participation is encouraged.

-Common choking hazards for children, and details ways to reduce the risks of choking in children.
-The Choking Rescue Protocol, including how to administer Choking First Aid to a conscious adult, and infant, including self-rescue techniques.
-The importance of follow-up monitoring and medical care for a choking victim.
-First aid for choking using hands-on choking rescue simulation devices and infant manikins. Participants will learn the American Heart Association Choking Rescue Protocol. They will learn how to perform back blows for infant choking rescue training and the Abdominal Thrust Maneuver for victims over the age of one.
