Chair and Associate Professor, Nursing and Health Studies
University of Wisconsin-Green Bay
Christine Vandenhouten has a long career as a nurse educator/researcher and is the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Nursing & Health Studies program chair. Dr. Vandenhouten worked with many nursing students as they started their first PIV. The dexterity & critical thinking needed require a keen awareness of A&P & device mechanics. She worked closely with AVA colleagues to conduct an international study exploring how health systems ensure nurse competence in PIV access. Results were published in JAVA in 2018. A manuscript describing the results of the study examining how PIV is taught in nursing schools is in process.
Dr. Vandenhouten's publications focus on interprofessional practice, policy/political participation, E-learning, and nursing leadership (Emotional Intelligence, Disease Management Program development, integration of drug diversion software, horizontal violence). She serves on numerous community boards including Northeast Wisconsin Area Health Education Center, Brown County United Way Community Investment Committee, & Bellin Health systems.
