David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA
Mr. Steve R. Zhou is a rising 4th year medical student at the David Geffen School of Medicine, UCLA. Mr. Zhou received his biomedical engineering degree at the University of Southern California, and proceeded to work in device engineering for Genentech after graduation. His work in health technology research and industry drove him to explore a medical career, and his fulfilling experience with patients cemented his desire to become a clinician. He is interested in meeting pressing urologic health needs by creating patient-centered engineering solutions through academic-industry collaborations. He is currently funded under the Dean's Leadership in Health and Sciences Scholarship to take one year out of medical school for research. He currently works with colleagues at UCLA's Center for Advanced Surgical and Interventional Technology (CASIT) and the Department of Urology, with a focus on prostate cancer diagnostics and focal therapies. He currently also consults for a prostate cancer therapeutics start-up, where he works on clinical trial design as well as the company's artificial intelligence-based treatment planning technology. Mr. Zhou will return to medical school in the summer of 2019 to complete his degree and apply to Urology residencies.
