009IC: Robot-assisted Radical Prostatectomy—Beyond the Learning Curve

This course will focus on the advanced content of robot-assisted radical prostatectomy, for surgeons who have completed their first 100 cases. The course assumes that the learner has hands on experience with port placement, docking, and initial case performance in well-selected cases. For participants seeking advanced training, this course will provide video-based discussion, and key illustration content for managing difficult/unexpected anatomy, advanced access techniques including the Xi system, bladder neck dissection, nerve sparing fascia planes, apical anatomy, reconstruction, and Retzius Sparing approach. Following this, we will present a series of 3 minute troubleshooting videos with panel critiques/comments.

 

Learning Objectives:

• Analyze a difficult anatomic variation in robotic prostatectomy and to apply the best solution to the problem.
• Select appropriate patients with high risk or recurrent disease for robotic surgery and to design and execute the most effective operation
• Summarize the best available evidence and the most up to date estimates of risk and benefit of robotic prostatectomy.
• Define surgical tips/tricks that improve time efficiency, and the least traumatic dissection of the nerve bundles and apex.
• Demonstrate improved functional outcomes
