The ASTRO2019 theme is: Innovate, Collaborate, Transform. We bring a novel multidisciplinary joint session from two professional societies (Society for Neuro-Oncology and ASTRO) to educate in a multi-disciplinary fashion about the latest advances in the management of gliomas, translated into the clinical practice of the radiation oncologist. The management of primary brain gliomas has changed in the past several years, with the integration of molecular diagnostics, advanced imaging techniques, immunotherapy, novel therapeutics and clinical trials for recurrent disease. The session will cover management of gliomas (low-grade and high-grade), from the perspective of translation into clinical practice. This practical case-based educational joint session brings together neuro-oncology, molecular neuropathology, radiation oncology, and neuroradiology to educate clinicians in a multi-disciplinary fashion about the latest advances. The format will include short presentations (10-12 min each) by leading experts on: Update of Molecular Pathology in Gliomas: Modern Classification meets Clinical Practice; Novel targeted therapies/Immuno-oncology and Clinical Trials/Tumor-Treating Fields; Neurocognitive Dysfunction: Prevention and Clinical trials; Management of Recurrent Glioma: Updates and Clinical Trials. Then the experts and moderators, along with a neuro-radiologist, will lead a challenging cases mini-tumor board (30-35 min), presenting key cases which drive home the concepts and material covered in the sessions. In each case, an expert neuro-radiologist will guide the interpretation of brain imaging to help the audience understand the role of advanced neuroimaging. This session is pivotal to distill the most novel advances in the management of gliomas, in a multi-disciplinary educational format for the clinical radiation oncologist.
