There is a burgeoning understanding of the medical inequities faced by the at least 25 million transgender individuals worldwide. However, there is a paucity of data on the experiences and outcomes of transgender cancer patients generally, and transgender radiation oncology patients more specifically. This session aims to discuss best practices for high quality care of transgender cancer patients. We will review the current evidence for transgender cancer patients' experiences and outcomes, and the highlight need for further investigation. We will explore how our community utilizes a binary gender approach to cancer, such as strongly associating females with breast cancer and males with prostate cancer. Moreover, we will assess and explore steps to make our clinical settings, programs, and support groups inclusive of transgender patients. There will be a special emphasis on language and communication with transgender patients. Finally, we seek to engage with participants to discuss collecting and publishing data to work towards a data-driven standard of care for transgender radiation oncology patients. Overall, we hope that this session will be a first step for many radiation oncologists in addressing the specific health care needs of transgender patients.
