EDU 14 - (INTERACTIVE) Challenging Cases in Cervical Cancer

This will be a case based discussion of several topics in the radiotherapeutic treatment of cervical cancer, with particular emphasis on brachytherapy as a key component of treatment. We will invite 5 speakers, each of whom will present a case and the proceed to discuss the challenge presented, the data aiding in decision making, and the eventual case resolution. This will flexibly allow several topics to be covered including the use of new hybrid style implants (intracavitary + interstitial), challenges in MRI contouring, challenges in coordination of care and access to brachytherapy, and challenges facing countries with few resources. There will be time allowed for discussion of questions from the audience.

Biography:
Dr. Beth Erickson is tenured professor and faculty at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Department of Radiation Oncology. Dr. Erickson focuses on treatment of patients with gastrointestinal and gynecologic cancers and is chief of Brachytherapy Services at MCW. She has written and spoken nationally and internationally on treatment of gynecologic and GI malignancies, with special interest in image-based treatment planning both for external-beam and brachytherapy. She has great interest in MR-guided radiation and currently has an investigator-initiated trial, MR-guided phase-II radiotherapy dose-escalation in unresectable non-metastatic pancreatic cancer. Dr. Erickson currently chairs the tumor-site group for pancreas cancer for the International MRI-Linac Consortium. She served on the ICRU-89 committee and has participated in the MR-based EMBRACE trial. She has been active in the American Brachytherapy Society, serving as a member of the board and past president, along with the ABS GYN Brachytherapy School since its inception in 1995. She was honored with the Henschke Award in 2014. She currently serves as chair of the ABS International committee. She serves as section-head editor for Gyn for the “Journal of Brachytherapy International”. Dr. Erickson served as Vice-Chair of the Cervix Committee for the Patterns of Care and QRRO Studies and has served as Chair of the ACR Practice Guidelines for the performance of high-dose rate and low-dose rate brachytherapy. She served on the Cervix Committee for NRG. She has also been active in the Radiological Society of North America serving as co-chair for the Boost Program. She is a former trustee of the American Board of Radiology. She served on the RRC. She has been very active in ASTRO with teaching activities including multiple ASTRO refresher courses, panels, and e-contouring courses along with serving on numerous ASTRO committees including the MOC/CME, Education, Nominating, Fellowship and Refresher course and serving as Gyn Track Chair.
