Dr. Nathan R. Soderborg is a Principal Scientist in Exponent’s Statistical and Data Sciences practice, providing consulting services related to statistics, risk analysis, quality assurance, reliability engineering, process improvement, and mathematical modeling. His experience spans product development, testing, manufacturing, data analytics, and operations across a variety of industries. He works with organizations to proactively assess existing practices and instill systems that improve product and process quality. He uses statistics and data science to quantify risks and investigate and solve manufacturing and operational problems. He has an extensive background in process improvement and failure mode avoidance methods, including FMEA, robust design, and design for reliability.
Dr. Soderborg holds a PhD in mathematics from the University of Michigan and an SM degree in engineering and management from MIT. He is a past president of the Detroit chapter of the American Statistical Association and an ASQ Certified Six Sigma Black Belt (CSSBB) and Reliability Engineer (CRE). As a Six Sigma Master Black Belt at Ford Motor Company, he was a primary architect of the company’s Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methodology and deployment. In 2016, he served as a member of the team that developed ASQ's DFSS training curriculum.
