John Baranzelli is the Director of the Office of Rapid Results for the State of Illinois. Prior to his work with the Office of Rapid Results, Mr. Baranzelli held a variety of positions with the Illinois Department of Transportation including Engineer of Design and Environment as ISO Quality Assurance Officer.
In 2006, Mr. Baranzelli led the Illinois Department of Transportation to achieve the first successful ISO 9001 certification of a state transportation agency. From 2012 – 2016, Mr. Baranzelli served as the Engineer of Design and Environment for the Illinois Department of Transportation and led the successful advertisement, selection and execution of more than $10.5B worth of heavy construction contracts and engineering consultant agreements. In 2016, Mr. Baranzelli formed the Illinois Office of Rapid Results within the Illinois Department of Central Management Services with the objective of bringing the principles of operational excellence and continuous improvement to the Illinois State Government workforce. During the first two years of the Rapid Results program, Mr. Baranzelli has led the successful training of 2,300 State of Illinois employees resulting in the deployment of more than 1,300 operational excellence projects. These projects have resulted in annualized cost savings of more than $12,000,000 and have saved more than 670,000 in annualized labor hours. Mr. Baranzelli is a registered professional engineer and the author of the book Making Government Great Again: Mapping the Road to Success with ISO 9001:2008. Mr. Baranzelli is an award winning public speaker who has spoken to thousands of people at events sponsored by eminent organizations including the Process Excellence Network, Toastmasters International, and the American Society for Quality. In 2013, Mr. Baranzelli was awarded the Sagarika Madala Memorial Award for Exemplary Leadership from the University of Illinois, GPSI Program. Mr. Baranzelli is a former Chair of the ASQ Government Division.
