This project improves the field quality of vertical axis washing machines’ disc bases. In-scope and out-of-scope statements, assumptions and expectations, project budget plans, risk management, project team formation, and preparation are completed before project kickoff. Then tools, including Gantt charts, hypothesis testing, MSA, regression analysis, Monte Carlo simulation and other Six Sigma tools are used in a DMAIC model through Define, Measurement, Analysis, Improvement, and Control phases to reach the project goal. The success experience is also spread throughout the group after project completion. This project reduced approximately 30% disc base field rejects in China, saved about 2 million RMB in quality costs and contributed to the organization’s goal. Washing machine field rejects were reduced by approximately 1720 ppm and saved approximately 47 million RMB in quality costs. In addition, one employee was trained and achieved his Six Sigma Black Belt certification and processes related to this project were optimized. This session will also explain how those tools are used to reach the project goal.
