Drone capabilities are positioned to objectively document the completion of an inspection activity and provide data which can be used by an autonomous defect detection methodology to identify and capture the location and details associated with defects. Utilization of these capabilities will be rewarded immediately through the safety benefits realized by elimination of inspectors using cranes and scaffolding to inspect elevated airplane surfaces and also in the elimination of need to enter confined spaces such as fuel tanks. In more traditionally safe and accessible areas, the gain in efficiency and effectiveness given this new approach will allow manpower to be shifted to focus on oversight, auditing, data sampling, and assurance. With fewer inspection steps requiring human labor, better data and clearer assurance of conformity, you may begin creating a culture of preventive action where work is done smarter, not harder. This session will demonstrate these capabilities and discuss shifts in quality employee credentials and hiring practices.
