Building and Sustaining a Culture of Quality
Division: Design and Construction Division
This session aims at building and sustaining a culture of quality for design-build (DB) projects. Because of its flexibility, the DB model of project delivery lends itself well to a variety of project types in many industries. Infrastructure projects in industries such as transportation, defense, chemical, government, healthcare, schools, and pubic welfare are increasingly utilizing DB because it offers the benefits of single-source accountability, faster project completion, and is arguably more cost-effective. Unlike traditional bid-build projects, DB is an alternative delivery method, which combines the design and build experience of two independent organizations and makes them one team for the duration of the project. As with most teaming arrangements, the absence of effective collaboration may be where the growing pains of design-build are revealed. This session will focus on the implementation of quality in DB projects to make it more effective.
