Simulation modeling is often associated with industrial engineering and operations research, but it has much to offer the quality engineering professional. It is being used to plan, design, manage, assess, and upgrade systems in a wide range of industries, including aerospace, automotive, energy, logistics and transportation, retail, and services. The predictive and analytical nature of the technology makes it a powerful quality tool.
This workshop will introduce the history, concepts, technology and uses of simulation models. Through case studies, live model demonstrations and interactive exercises, attendees will gain an appreciation for how these computer models can be applied to specific quality areas of expertise. Discussions and examples will include: Using simulation models to predict and quantify the impact of lean and Six Sigma initiatives and strategies, applying activity-based costing techniques to a dynamic and stochastic inspection process, and how agent-based modeling can be used to analyze the erratic behavior of autonomous systems. This session will be generic in nature and avoid any sales-speak.
