ETF-002 - Explore the Floor with the Urban Design PPN

The Explore the Floor sessions at the ASLA Conference on Landscape Architecture offer attendees the opportunity to learn about new and improved techniques and how these improvements and services can help to create successful design projects. This guided walk on the EXPO floor will include the exhibitors: Belgard, Iron Age Designs, Sika Decorative Concrete, and Victor Stanley.

Belgard
We will showcase the use of interlocking, permeable pavers and describe installation methods, colors, sizes, and textures available. We will also discuss rooftop deck projects and how different materials (concrete, porcelain, and wood) and pedestal systems may be used.

Iron Age Designs
Metals are ubiquitous in today's hardscape and are used in a variety of applications. This presentation will go over the most common materials, their appropriate usage, and the various methods of manufacture. You will also learn more about the process of custom design with the aid of a manufacturer.

Sika Decorative Concrete
Our intent is to provide the design professional with new ideas for enhancing concrete with dramatic results, whether you’re designing flatwork, precast elements, or cast-in-place structures. Architectural concrete can provide a broad palette of colors and finishes, with the beauty and durability of a “Green” building material.

Victor Stanley
Our presentation will educate attendees about the structural and aesthetic qualities and implementation techniques of site furnishings.

Learning Objectives:

• Belgard: Attendees will learn about the scope of materials available for interlocking pavers and how they may be used in different settings.
• Iron Age Designs: Learn properties and proper applications of different metals in the hardscape. Identify factors that influence costs for different methods of manufacture. Learn how to better interact with manufacturers/suppliers on the development of custom work to better realize your projects’ aesthetic, functional goals, and budget.
• Sika Decorative Concrete: Methods of application for concrete coloring and creative color combinations will be discussed. The latest methods and techniques for concrete systems for stamping and polishing concrete will show the designer the state of the art for cast-in-place flatwork and vertical applications. Concrete Maintenance Systems: discuss the importance of using the proper products and methods for maintaining the long term beauty of your architectural concrete installations.
• Victor Stanley: Develop an understanding of all types of site furnishings. Discuss the many different project types that may require, or could be enhanced by, site furnishings. Look into the future: What are future modifications, uses, and applications of site furnishings?
