Design and placemaking in the American South have historically taken a backseat to auto-centric solutions and sprawl. This session examines three case studies focusing on urban, suburban, and rural contexts where designers are focusing on placemaking, art, and connectivity to overcome cultural norms that are barriers to equity and vibrancy.

Learning Objectives:

• Learn how Landscape Architects can lead transportation projects and collaborate with other professions.
• Identify approaches to advancing placemaking and mobility objectives within communities resistant to change.
• Recognize design strategies that improve mobility and contribute to placemaking within roadway corridors.
• Describe how to collaborate with regional and national organizations to implement placemaking projects.
