A community ecologist by training, Matt’s research focuses on understanding interactions among organisms in complex ecosystems. He applies network and systems theory combined with computational tools to address interdisciplinary questions in the context of food-systems. His work includes theoretical and empirical studies of food webs, including fisheries. He has designed databases and software to analyze ecosystem networks for sustainable management. He has taught courses in programming and ecosystem analysis at the University of North Carolina and Harvard University and has participated as a guest lecturer and reviewer for landscape architecture courses at the University of Toronto and North Eastern University.
