With a need for open space, constrained public budgets, built-out infrastructure, and a Climate Action Plan, San Diego has developed a comprehensive plan to get people out of their cars. Traveling via the cycle network, this session will visit urban parks developed by public, private, and public–private groups.

$95 per person before July 12; $110 after July 12; includes bike/helmet rentals, water, and catered lunch. Extensive bike riding.

Learning Objectives:

• Review Downtown San Diego’s Mobility Plan and how the plan dovetails into the city’s Climate Action Plan, creating linkages for bikes and pedestrians to downtown’s open spaces.
• Understand the planning and design constraints of creating green infrastructure in an existing built environment.
• Examine the public and private forces that brought together each of these unique spaces.
• Explore the opportunities and constraints for public–private partnerships in the development, maintenance, and operations of public spaces.
