Adolescents & Adults with Developmental Disabilities
This interactive session addresses current trends and College opportunities for Student with Disabilities. Using the ICF framework, we will address evaluation and intervention across the framework focusing on participation as a university student. Topics include: 1) Overview of mandates determining funding and services for college students with disabilities. 2) Discussion of the continuum of options for post-secondary education and campus living, presented by a colleague with cerebral palsy who has been successful in undergraduate and graduate programs, 3) Practical application from a peer mentor working with students with disabilities from the TOPS (Transition Options in Post-Secondary Settings) program at a large public university. This course will wrap up with collaborative small group sharing of current physical therapy practice and integrating course information into participant work settings upon return to work. This course is applicable to members of multiple special interest groups within APPT; including AADD and School Based SIGs.
