Adolescents & Adults with Developmental Disabilities
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy has had exciting medical advancements in the past 5 years. The speaker will review advancements including pharmacologic breakthroughs and current research. The improved medical interventions have lead to a different clinical picture than described in the past; we will discuss current expectations of disease progression based on the literature and clinical experience.
Assessment tool selection at time of transition will be discussed including disease tools and implementation. Then outcomes of the tools will be applied in context of the multifactorial ICF framework to improve participation, specifically in Middle School and Adulthood transition.
This presentation is relevant across settings and collaboration of providers will be emphasized. A culminating activity utilizing case studies will illustrate application of assessment tools, ICF model, example resources available and to ascertain participants' achievement of course objectives.
