The Academic and Clinical Educator Special Interest Group (ACE SIG) recognized the need for specific clinical instructor training and development as identified in the Pediatric Education Summit I. In 2017, as a result of the APPT strategic plan goals and objectives, the ACE SIG developed a task force to address this need through an accessible toolkit for pediatric clinical educators. This task force solicited clinical instructor and site coordinator input as well as provided individual task force member insight into the general and specific needs of a pediatric clinical educator. From this work, the APPT Pediatric Clinical Instructor Toolkit was created. The Toolkit recognizes the important contributions of clinical instructors in the formation and education of physical therapy students and the need for specific resources to assist pediatric CIs to support student development This session will highlight the development of the toolkit including the results of the initial needs assessment survey. The presenters will demonstrate the platform or share the proposed platform and organizational structure of the toolkit. Examples of the available tools and resources will be shared. Participants will have the opportunity to participate in future development of resources for pediatric clinical instructors through group discussion and proposal formation.
Describe the need for a central resource for pediatric clinical instructors (CIs).
Utilize the Pediatric Clinical Instructor Toolkit by matching one existing clinical educator tool to a student learning activity or identified CI training need.
Write a clinical education tool proposal to build the available resources in the existing Toolkit.
Contribute feedback and proposed tools to the Pediatric Clinical Instructor Toolkit.
