This presentation will provide an overview for the physical therapy clinician and the rehabilitation administrator wanting to provide services within the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The presentation will review the current literature of clinical physical therapy practice guidelines, which include qualifications, mentoring programs and safe practices for new practitioners. Engaged group discussion will include the interprofessional skill expectations, the scope of practice, and expected challenges in the neonatal intensive care unit. Discussions regarding current hospital-based caseload mix and expectations of providing service to this vulnerable NICU population. Information will be provided in accessing educational and clinical experiences to enhance the preparation of the PT providing services in the NICU.
