David is CEO of ARG Conservation Services and a trained architectural conservator with more than 25 years’ experience in the conservation of cultural resources. For ARG Conservation Services, David directs conservation projects and is responsible for overseeing all projects and developing specialized treatments for stabilization, repair, and restoration of cultural property. His work has included conservation of a wide range of materials, including concrete, wood, decoratively painted plaster work, natural building stones, brickwork, and terra cotta. Throughout his career, David has been actively involved with professional organizations and foundations with particular focus on San Francisco.
He has served as Board President of San Francisco Heritage and as a board member of the American Institute of Architects, SF Chapter (AIASF). In 2013, David was appointed to serve on the Steering Committee for the development and construction of the James R. Herman Cruise Terminal at Pier 27, San Francisco. In 2015, David agreed to be a member of the Selection Committee for the reuse of the Palace of Fine Arts for the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department. Currently, David is representing the Building, Owners, and Managers Association (BOMA) as a member of the San Francisco Façade working group that is developing an ordinance for the inspection and care of older and historic commercial buildings. He is also a member of the Lambda Alpha Honor Society.
Nationally, David was the co-chair of the American Society for Testing of Materials (ASTM) task group that developed guidelines for masonry consolidants. He was an invited participant in the current development of guidelines for the use of biocides on historic outdoor structures and monuments by the National Park Service and an invited speaker on this topic at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Association for Preservation Technology International (APTI) and is the past chair of the Architectural Specialty Group of the American Institute for Conservation (AIC). David is a Professional Associate of The American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works, AIC, and a Fellow of APTI.
