Masters of Applied Science in Structural Engineering
Kristian Falkjar is currently a Master’s student at Carleton University, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. His passion for both structural analysis and historic buildings has led him to focus his research into analyzing the structural integrity of lime mortar mixes used in the nineteenth century. His academic background includes structural design, building envelope design and seismic analysis. He is currently working toward becoming a structural engineer with an historic specialization.
He has been involved in the preservation field for five years, having completed internships in municipal and federal heritage departments, as well as in the private sector. He has conducted structural analyses to determine required upgrades to existing buildings as well as having extensively researched historic and modern mortar mixes in order to write relevant specifications. He once documented the significance of over 250 houses, facilitating their inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places.
