Walking tour of Miami’s Design District and Buenavista East, adjacent neighborhoods that juxtapose Miami’s old and new architecture. We will begin walking in the historic tropical HPOZ that features 1920s-1940s Mediterranean Revival, Mission, Craftsman, and Art Deco style residences, and continue with a tour of a glamorous commercial development by award-winning master planners Duany Plater-Zyberk, that is Miami Dade County’s first LEED ND Gold Certified project. Led by the district’s curator Tiffany Chestler, we will see how the developers envisioned using cutting edge materials to showcase fashion and artworks, and see public art installations by Buckminster Fuller, Zaha Hadid, and John Baldessari, among others. The tour will end with a visit to the two contemporary art museums in the district- the De la Cruz Collection and the Institute of Contemporary Art.
