Research Assistant
Carleton University
Adrian is a civil engineering masters student from Carleton University, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, specializing in performance simulation for heritage and existing buildings. He is a student supported by the NSERC CREATE Heritage Engineering program currently working at WSP Canada on an internship for the Parliament Hill Center Block rehabilitation project in the sustainability team where he is helping advise on sustainability components of the federal project. Studying the intersection of architecture and engineering, Adrian has focused on strategies for performance simulation in heritage buildings. His research aims to develop a methodology to help facilitate a more holistic simulation workflow within an architectural retrofit context; considering more indoor environmental quality aspects than what is currently observed in common practice. Working within tools like Rhino, Grasshopper, Ladybug and, Honeybee he is investigating how indoor environmental quality and heritage are interrelated and how compromises in the design process should be examined to preserve both the environment and heritage values.
