Track 1: Effects of Climate Change in Warm Weather Coastal Regions
Climate change--and the associated disaster events--present a major threat to the future of cultural heritage. 21st century preservation professionals will need to have an appropriate skill set to address the necessary planning, mitigation, response, and recovery work that will be essential in order to be effective stewards of our heritage. Conservators and collections managers responsible for our moveable cultural heritage are developing training methods and deployment procedures that align with best practices across voluntary organizations active in disasters. How can those professionals working with moveable heritage collaborate more effectively with professionals working with immoveable heritage? How can collections professionals better understand the relationship between their collections and the buildings that house them? And what tools will we need in order to dedicate appropriate resources to this work in the future?
