Improvement Specialist, Infection Prevention/Construction

Leon Young is an Improvement Specialist for UPMC Corporate Services in the field of Infection Prevention and Construction. Previously working as an IP at Presbyterian and Montefiore University Hospitals in Pittsburgh, PA for just over 9 years Leon performed clinical IP, and was responsible for all construction ICRA activities on campus. Now as the UPMC Improvement Specialist the responsibilities have expanded as the ICRA subject expert for the UPMC System. Leon presented “Can We Fix It? Yes We Can!" at the 2016 Annual APIC Conference. Throughout his career he has been instrumental in managing ICRA and IP for many different project types and sizes. Experience includes small scale renovations to overseeing two major building demolitions of UPMC Children’s Hospital to multi-phased demolition and renovation of UPMC’s 3- winged Transplant ICU. Leon continues to provide best practices educations and consults to UPMC facilities and IPs, as well as to non-UPMC entities.
