Risk Management
Perioperative Care of the Older Adult (France) #1073 (1.00 CH)
May Karam, BSN, RN, IBODE, CCRN
OR Nurse
In many countries, a large portion of the population is aging. Operating on older adults is now part of everyday life but in surgery, old age is a risk factor because aging causes a slow deterioration of the body's functions and the body loses its ability to adapt to aggression. The challenge here is to make sure that surgery brings a real improvement in the lives of the older adult without being a source of major postoperative complications. The OR nurse must anticipate and plan perioperative care adapted to the elderly person while taking into account the specific needs of the older adult and the presence of associated pathologies.
