Hot Topic! Unity is Strength: Applying QSEN’s Competency of Teamwork and Collaboration in Perioperative Nursing #1086 (1.00 CH)
The saying that there is no “I” in team may not hold true in the perioperative setting. Each person on the team has a specific function/responsibility and must be able to work independently yet collaboratively. Critical to this is the function of communication; the key that brings the perioperative team together to provide the safest and most efficient surgical experience to the patient. With standard procedures and under critical moments, it is essential that surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, RNs and other health care team members communicate effectively for the best surgical outcomes. It is also important to show mutual respect for each member of the perioperative team, working with their strengths and weaknesses with the intent to give the best patient care; a goal that connects the entire team.
