ASCs understand the importance of preparation for success yet often overlook the need to prepare for management's planned and unplanned exits. Managers may need to leave the ASC for short periods of time for reasons that include illness, injury, death in the family, and vacation or may need to leave for longer periods of time for reasons that include a more debilitating illness, maternity/paternity leave, or an extended vacation. Managers may leave ASC positions permanently for reasons that include change of jobs/careers, retirement, relocation, severe illness, severe injury, and death. Learn about the specific components of an effective succession plan and how to properly put them together. Learn to identify individuals who are well-suited to succeed management and how to effectively prepare these individuals to fill these positions, should the need arise. What do you do if such individuals are not currently present in the ASC? Learn how to execute a succession plan successfully in all situations and review common pitfalls to avoid during succession planning and execution.
