Every health care professional with a role in opioid prescribing has a responsibility to help ensure access to needed medications while restricting overutilization. This session will provide a comprehensive review of managed care strategies that have been applied with the goal of mitigating the nation’s ongoing increase in opioid-related mortality. Faculty will describe formulary management tools used by payers and report real-world effectiveness seen in a state Medicaid program. The program also will highlight the role of naloxone co-prescribing in patients with specific risks, and discuss the results of the AMCP Addiction Advisory Group’s stakeholder survey on the co-prescribing of naloxone. Finally, presenters will describe barriers to implementation of naloxone co-prescribing strategies and ways that plans, and providers can work together to ultimately increase naloxone distribution in some of the highest risk populations. Don’t miss this opportunity to discover what best practices you can use!
