Acting Project Officer for the Title V Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Block Grant for the Region II States and Jurisdictions (Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands)
The eight jurisdictions/territories including American Samoa, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, Marshall Islands, Palau, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands participate in the Title V Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Block grant program, providing support to promote the health of women, infants, children, including children with special health care needs, and their families. With the State Systems Development Initiative Grant Tier 1 Program complementing the Block Grant program, the jurisdictions/territories aim to enhance their MCH systems for data capacity through the improvement of the availability, timeliness, and quality of their MCH data, supporting the engagement of informed decision-making processes and resource distributions. Also, the jurisdiction’s utilization of the data is critical to reporting of MCH program assessments, plans, and evaluations, as well as addressing public health emergencies and emerging threats. The session will: provide an in-depth discussion of the MCH data capacity systems in the jurisdictions/territories including needs and resources; identify opportunities to strengthen the MCH system workforce, and discuss the role of MCH data capacity systems in responding to public health emergencies and emerging threats impacting the MCH population.
