Eight years after its passage, the Affordable Care Act continues to be among the most controversial federal health care laws in recent history. Many view the ACA as hard wired into the nation’s health care system, and its success is validated by the dramatic drop in the rate of un-insurance. This workshop will provide a high-level update of the ACA, including recent congressional and executive branch efforts to weaken or circumvent the law and a review of the ACA’s role in the 2018 election season. Secondly, the presenters will share the results of key-informant interviews conducted on the AMCHP-led regional calls. The workshop will also feature ACA-related information gleaned from the 2018 Title V Block Grant applications. Finally, presenters will engage participants in small group discussions to develop creative approaches they can employ to demonstrate the value of the law for MCH populations in their states.
