The COMPETES Act allows federal agencies to administer challenge or prize competitions to spur innovation in an open, participatory, and collaborative manner. MCHB has embraced the mechanism as an opportunity to help solve emerging MCH issues, engage non-traditional “solvers,” and bring a fast-paced, iterative design structure to the development of new solutions and innovations that will benefit the MCH population.
In 2018 the MCHB Grand Challenges launched; 4 new competitions with a total prize amount of $1.5 million, including:
