Health Equity (includes social justice and cultural competence)
Health equity means everyone has the opportunity to live a healthy life- no matter where they live. Since 2014, the Rhode Island Department of Health has made substantial investments in community-led, place-based models to address disparities. Our Health Equity Zones (HEZ) initiative braids together funds from several sources, including the state's Title V program, and creates a platform for neighbors and community partners to come together. The advantages of such an approach have especially been felt by the women and children living in those communities. During this presentation, Rhode Island's Title V program will share how this approach has helped us better align investments into programs for communities, by communities. We will present the HEZ framework, how Title V funds support them, and give examples of how our most vulnerable communities have seen substantial improvements to available services.
