Chelsea (Lynes) Richard is originally from Norfolk, MA. She received a Bachelors of Science in Biology (Magna cum Laude) from the University of Massachusetts Boston in 2012. After graduation, she worked as a research assistant at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston on a study investigating the genetic mechanisms of bicuspid aortic valve. Then, she earned a Masters of Science in Public Health in Epidemiology in 2015 from the University of South Carolina (USC). Her master’s thesis explored the relationship between interpregnancy weight gain and adverse maternal outcomes. In 2015, she began working at the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control as the coordinator for two population health surveys (the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System and Children’s Health Assessment Survey), as well as the data analyst for the Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System. Chelsea began her PhD in Epidemiology at USC in 2017 and was awarded the Presidential Fellowship to support her doctoral studies. She continues to work at SC DHEC full time while obtaining her PhD and became a PhD candidate in August 2018.
