Title V CSHCN, Puerto Rico Department of Health
In 2005 Coral became a mother for the first time. Her son was born with multiple conditions. The birth of Felix changed her life forever. Since that moment, as she proudly called herself, she became FELIX MOM.
Coral participated as a volunteer in community based organization and schools, trying to cope with the multiple conditions and challenges that came with the changes that she was facing. She was very focused in trying to create awareness about the challenges of the CSHCN and their families.
Since 2009, she works as a Family Representative at the Puerto Rico-CSHCN Program. She has been a Family Scholarship for AMCHP, EHDI Family Scholarship, Title V Family Delegate for AMCHP, and PR-PTI “Family Leaders Academy”. Her duties include, among others, the coordination of services, Family to Family Support and implementation of work plans. Coral offers workshops for families, CSHCNP staff and the community in general about the impact of having CSHCN and experiences of families, trying to create awareness and promote family inclusion at all levels. Since the birth of her son, Coral’s life revolves around the needs of Felix, as well as those of other children and their families.
