Shannon’s career in libraries spans 20 years. Currently, she is the Director of Libraries for the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. In this role, Shannon assumes leadership for all aspects of the library including strategic planning, budgeting, technology integration, facility management and operation, and personnel administration. Prior to her arrival at MUSC, Shannon worked as the Associate Director, Research and Education at the Tompkins-McCaw Library for the Health Sciences at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond.
Shannon received her MLS from North Carolina Central University (NCCU). In addition, to the MLS, Shannon also holds a MIS from NCCU, a M.Ed. in Adult Learning from VCU, and a BA in English from North Carolina State University. Shannon is an active member in both the American Library Association and the Medical Library Association. She serves on the boards for the Medical Library Association and the Partnership Among South Carolina Academic Libraries (PASCAL). Shannon is a distinguished member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP). Her research interests include staff recruitment and retention, diversity, equity, and inclusion in libraries, organizational learning and development, self care for information professionals, and leadership in academic health sciences libraries.
