John DeBacher is the Public Library Development Director in the Division for Libraries and Technology within the Department of Public Instruction where he works with a small team of consultants to support and supplement regional library systems in their assistance to local communities, library boards, and directors in public library administration and services. His team is responsible for distribution of state funding for the regional public library systems as well as federal library funding. In that role, they provide resources and direction, as well as interpretation of Chapter 43 of the Wisconsin Statutes. Previously John served as director of the Monona Public Library from 1994 through 2004, as a director of a rural library in Michigan, and a childrens librarian at the Chicago Public Library. He obtained his MLIS at a dead library school, the University of Chicago, before their historic program closed. His bachelors degree is from Ginnell College in Iowa, where he majored in English.
