Chairs Program
Conference or work travel can be hard on us, but it is also hard on the planet! Purchasing carbon offsets in order to achieve carbon-neutral travel is touted as one way to reduce the carbon footprint of our journeys. But do these programs actually work? Are there offset programs that have larger social value, and where in the world are they located? How does one encourage or implement offset programs at the organization or institution level in order to normalize responsible travel? Our panel will offer responses to these weighty questions. We invite you to join us for the discussion and to contribute your own experience. We also invite you to offset your own ALA conference travel! Please visit the travel offset page that Cool Effect (a panel presenter) created for this event: https://www.cooleffect.org/content/news/ala-travel-offset . The funds raised from carbon offsets will pay for capturing naturally-released methane and using it as clean energy while creating jobs for Native Americans in Colorado.
