The Coretta Scott King Book Awards Committee is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year, so join us to learn about the committee’s illustrious history, how CSK books impacted the life of children’s author Kelly Starling Lyons as an individual and author, and effective ways to use Coretta Scott King Award-winning books to enrich both programming and instruction. Lead by Alan R. Bailey, you will leave this session with resources and creative ideas that can be implemented immediately in public, school, and academic libraries to create more inclusive environments for children. The session will conclude with an interactive discussion. The Coretta Scott King Book Awards are given annually to outstanding African American authors and illustrators of books for children and young adults that demonstrate an appreciation of African American culture and universal human values. The award commemorates the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and honors his wife, Mrs. Coretta Scott King, for her courage and determination to continue the work for peace and world brotherhood.
