Experts who have worked directly with surveyors and nursing center staff to effectively implement the new CMS regulations will help attendees “think like a surveyor” in examining compliance and preparedness for Phase 3 implementation of behavioral health and trauma informed care (TIC). Our experience includes long term care training on the updated regulations, survey process, and survey tool (software) for state, regional office, and contract surveyors; regulatory and compliance training for nursing center executives and associations; and CMS basic instructor courses and effective training techniques courses delivered to staff preparing to become CMS certified trainers.
Attendees will get an overview of the broad framework of behavioral health with a participant-centered examination of associated F-Tags; a list of the staff competencies required to provide behavioral health and TIC; a list of mental diseases and non-disease states outlined in the State Operations Manual; and information on trauma rates and potential sources, federal partner definitions, and best practices in TIC for older adults. We will also discuss the potential impact of the new survey process and offer tools to support participant awareness of surveyor identification of potential noncompliance. During the session, participants will create customized action plans for their facilities to meet the compliance requirements for each F-tag and staff competencies and integrate TIC and behavioral health into their care planning, training, assessment, and other operational components.
