Regional Medical Director
Steven Levenson, MD, CMD, has spent 41 years working in PALTC settings as a physician and medical director. He has been medical director of 22 (currently two) PALTC facilities in Maryland and is also currently responsible for overseeing 17 facilities in Kentucky and Tennessee.
Dr. Levenson has authored or co-authored four books and over 80 articles. His book, “Medical Direction in Long-Term Care,” was the first ever written about how to be a medical director. Another book, “Subacute and Transitional Care Handbook,” has remained the only comprehensive clinically oriented reference on the topic of post-acute care. Another publication is "Medical Policies and Procedures For Medical Directors and Attending Physicians in Longterm Care," a comprehensive guide on being a long-term and post-acute care medical director and attending physician.
He is recognized for his pioneering work in medical direction and efforts to improve long-term and post-acute care. He has also been involved extensively in legislative and regulatory initiatives related to advance care planning and ethical issues, and development of related policies and protocols.
Dr. Levenson is the Past President of AMDA – The Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine.
