Sarah Couture, RN, CHC, is an experienced compliance professional with deep knowledge that spans a wide array of healthcare settings. Sarah has served as the hospital compliance officer for a large academic medical center and in interim positions including Chief Compliance Officer for a regional school of medicine and faculty practice. She is often called upon to deliver compliance program effectiveness assessments and compliance risks assessments for regional hospitals, academic medical centers, long-term/post-acute care companies, and many other healthcare organizations. She has served as Board Compliance Expert with multiple organizations under Corporate Integrity Agreements (“CIAs”).
Sarah is also an expert clinical trial billing coverage analyst and frequent provider of clinical trial billing education and training. She has considerable expertise as a clinical and medical necessity auditor, including extensive work with Inpatient Rehabilitation Facilities. She enjoys helping clients with compliance program development including conducting risk assessments, building work plans, drafting policies and procedures, and delivering education and training.
Sarah is a regular speaker at regional and national compliance events. Her recent presentations have included topics such as physician engagement in compliance, collaboration with revenue cycle and revenue integrity, enforcement actions and risk assessment, and long-term care compliance requirements in the Requirements of Participation. Sarah recently co-wrote a chapter of the Health Care Compliance Professional's Manual. She also serves as the Editor for the Ankura Compliance Round Up, a monthly regulatory webinar.
Sarah has been a registered nurse for 18 years and has had clinical experience with both children and adults in multiple practice settings, including Skilled Nursing Facility, Federally Qualified Health Center and free clinic, outpatient primary care, and in the inpatient hospital setting.
She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Cedarville University, and is a registered nurse in the state of Kentucky.
