Director of Culinary Services
The Springs Living
Sam Currie joined The Springs Living in May, 2015 as the Director of Culinary Services. In this role, Sam sets the vision for how food contributes to the overall wellness of our residents.
Several years ago The Springs Living prioritized locally sourced, seasonal ingredients for its restaurant-style dining services, which are an integral part of all of its senior-living communities. Sam Currie was given the authority to help expand the company’s relationships with small, local farmers and ranchers to help ensure fresh, sustainably produced ingredients are the mainstay of their menus.
Sam served on a committee that helped inform Oregon’s Governor’s Sustainability Board on the business efforts of local food producers and buyers. He has nearly two decades of experience promoting socially responsible food procurement practices and developing sourcing networks of Northwest growers, ranchers and artisans.
In a fourth generation ranching family, Sam grew up in Colorado and Montana with an understanding of how food production impacts society, culture, health, wellness and our environment. After college Sam has worked in the restaurant industry, operated corporate dining venues and college dining programs, and managed client relations for a large on-site restaurant management company.
Exploring the world through farmers’ markets, travel, food and wine has been a favorite personal endeavor. Also, with a Fish and Wildlife degree, Sam has always been interested in hunting, fishing and environmental causes.
