90 Minute Workshop
Educational Programs, Workshops, Seminars, New Idea Session, and Small Group Discussions
This new event, the Achieving Excellence Through Difference (AETD) /Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) plenary, continues the legacy of important conversations around issues of diversity and inclusion. The plenary reception combines the “In the Mix” program with the annual Celebrating Diversity in Dental Education/SHPEP reception. The AETD brings together a speaker and the audience to engage in discussion about key diversity and inclusion issues impacting society and dental education. The program structure provides opportunities for networking and discussions, and honoring SHPEP program alumni, in a venue where diverse perspectives, cultures and values are celebrated and appreciated.
The ADEA Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee (ADEA DIAC) advises the ADEA Board of Directors on issues related to diversity and inclusion in dental education. The committee focuses on multiple dimensions of diversity in academic dental institutions which includes issues relative to racial/ethnic minority communities, women and the LGBT community include. The plenary reception will feature an interactive panel of diversity leaders that will highlight best practices for recruiting and retaining diverse faculty in dental education and introduce new resources that ADEA has created to help our members address this challenge.
