All dental schools must offer community-based clinical experiences to their students. Beyond enhancing cultural competence and exposing trainees to diverse populations, these experiences also represent an untapped opportunity to immerse learners in interprofessional team-based care. In this session, you will learn about interprofessional collaborations in community-based care where dental students provide clinical care, train future medical colleagues in basic oral health competencies, work in clinic administration and help strengthen the safety net. During this workshop, you will apply these concepts to community-based experiences at your own institution, strengthening CODA compliance and preparing your students for the future of dental practice.

Learning Objectives:

• Outline the range of interprofessional opportunities available in the community setting.
• Explain why community-based dental education has different challenges and opportunities for interprofessional education than within a school.
• Develop an action plan for an interprofessional activity specific to their community site or program.
