The University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry Special Care Dentistry Track and Community Service rotations take dental students outside of the school's walls allowing for treatment in community centers, a private practice and in the hospital operating room. Students learn behavior management techniques and provide treatment to sedated patients. Participants will learn about a largely interprofessional experience which develops students who are better prepared and more willing to treat individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This private practice, dental school and public health partnership has produced a highly effective training program for improving the overall health of our most vulnerable patients.
