With the recent legalization of medical and recreational cannabis use across the United States, oral health professionals are seeing a rise in patients who report cannabis use and associated oral effects. Oral health educators should be aware of different types of cannabis, synthetic cannabinoids and cannabinoid-based drugs, methods of consumption, health risks related to use and potential for addiction. Participants will discuss prevalence, adverse effects and oral care considerations with cannabis use. Working in groups, oral health educators will collaborate to revise assessment forms and patient education materials and identify appropriate strategies for treatment and counseling.
